14 – 18 Remembrance

on

You may remember the display of poppies around the Moat of the Tower of London in 2014 to commemorate the beginning of the First World War.  After Remembrance Sunday of that year some poppies were sold in aid of the Royal British Legion but others were retained to be used for regional displays over the next four years.

Recently a Poppy Wave display was constructed on Barge Pier in Shoeburyness, close to the site of the former Garrison.  We visited early evening to hear the local Boys Brigade Band playing.  At 7pm, the band and crowd drew silent as three young cadets stood proud and played the Last Post in remembrance of all those who have fallen in war and conflict.  It was a very solemn and moving moment on a glorious sunny evening.

I have posted photographs of the Poppy Wave below.
